Agree Childcare Arrangements
If you are still able to speak to your spouse then it is recommended that you speak with them directly to agree childcare arrangements, including who the child will live with, and how often the child will see the other parent (“kitchen table settlement”).
Few points:
Residence – Basically, who the child will live with (main base) – this is one of the most important decisions a couple can make.
Contact – This means the time the child or children will spend with the parent who they are not living with – including holidays, collection and return etc. The usual contact terms are every other weekend – Friday after school until Sunday early evening with telephone contact, plus every other Christmas Day and four weeks holiday a year.
The ‘no-order’ principle – If an agreement can be made with your spouse about where the children will reside, no court order or other documentary proof is needed – saving you both time and money.
Mediation – A mediator can be used if you’re unable to settle on childcare arrangements that please both parties, but sadly this rarely works.
