Question: What does it cost?
Answer: This depends on the task we are given. Wherever possible we give fixed fees-see our Fixed Fees page. Where not possible we charge on a highly competitive hourly basis, but will always give you costs estimates, and do our very best to stick to them.
Question: Why do I need a lawyer?
Answer: Because a lawyer is an experienced, expert adviser who will represent you better than you can do for yourself.
Question: Can you work for a success fee (no win/no fee) ?
Answer: No, it is seen as unethical to do so in divorce cases.
Question: How do I know if you can help me?
Answer: Contact us. If the problem is out of our field we will tell you. We only charge a fee once we have confirmed that we can advise you, and you give the go ahead. The 24 hour phone and e-mail helpline is completely free of charge.
Question: Do I have to get divorced in the country where I got married?
Answer: No. We can advise you on whether you can get divorced in the UK.
Question: What if my spouse won’t agree to getting divorced?
Answer: It will not matter. We can get you divorced.
Question: Won’t having a lawyer turn it into a fight?
Answer: No, we settle far more matters than we fight. We take the approach you wish us to.
Question: What is a prenuptial agreement?
Answer: A contract that sets out how assets will be divided if the couple divorce.
Question: How can I get maintenance where the other party lives abroad?
Answer: By having us, use the Reciprocal Enforcement treaties, or taking action in the other country.
Question: Can I make a claim where the assets are in my partner’s name?
Answer: Yes, and speedy action in relation to the matrimonial home is essential. We can help.
Question: How do I get visiting rights?
Answer: Apply to the court; we can draft the application for a fixed fee of £275 including VAT.
Question: What if I don’t know where my spouse is?
Answer: We can solve that. We get a court order dispensing with service.
Question: What if we’ve agreed everything?
Answer: Then you would be wise to have a lawyer document it in a Consent Order. This can be dealt with quickly and cheaply.
Question: How do I choose a lawyer?
Answer: You will find we are very different, and if you listen to Rodney’s voicecast or pod casts, you will be over tell whether we are the lawyers for you. We are cheaper and better than solicitors.
Question: What should I bring to a first interview?
Answer: Any relevant financial documents you may hold. To issue divorce proceedings the original marriage certificate is required. We can obtain a copy if necessary.
Question: Can I file for divorce if my husband is in another country?
Answer: Yes – the most experienced lawyer to deal with cross border related cases is Rodney Hylton-Potts.
Question: Is Fulham your only office?
